The first institutional solo show by Peruvian artist Armando Andrade Tudela (born 1975, Lima) at Frankfurter Kunstverein combined new and existing works. By means of collage, photography and sculpture Tudela investigates the differences between modernist legacies in Europe and Latin America. The “modernities” Tudela refers to in his work speak different languages and exert manifold grammars, especially regarding the use and function of materials. Armando Andrade Tudela proposes to review the different ways of expression modernity offers today: as an artistic language, a cultural heritage, a constant source of inspiration and reference in art and literature, a protection against the complex challenges of progress from which we can lend what is interesting and desirable and leave the rest behind …
Armando Andrade Tudela (*1975, Lima) lives in Lima, Peru and St. Etienne, France. In 2007 he participated in group shows like Brave New World at the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, USA, and the Lyon Biennale.
This exhibition is a co-production with the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Huarte in Navarra, Spain, where the exhibition was on view from July 4 to September 28, 2008.
