Workshop Mahjouba Lab: E-Mobility

18.11.2016 — 20.11.2016

During the first two weeks of “Atchilihtallah – On the Transformation of Things” (11. Nov 2016 – 12. Feb 2017) artist Eric van Hove and ten of his assistants, Moroccan mechanics and artisans, will reside at the garage specifically established at FKV for the exhibition. They will work on prototypes of the “Mahjouba”-series, manufactured electric motorbikes.

We are looking for experts and enthusiasts of craftsmanship, design, engineering and Social Entrepreneurship, who want to support the artist and his team in completing “Mahjouba II” and collectively develop “Mahjouba Version Frankfurt” during a workshop from 18. – 20. November. In doing so, only local materials and resources will be used. In cooperation with Bockenheim initiative Matemobil the concept will be translated into the context of Frankfurt and an electrically operated cargo bike will be constructed from recycled materials.

The Mahjouba prototypes contribute to Morocco’s national ambition to provide for 40 % of the energy production with sustainable resources from the world’s largest solar array, starting in 2020. At the same time, the project holds the potential for evolving from merely artistic aspirations into a project of local business and solidary economics. Since the entire vehicle is produced locally, Mahjouba motorbikes might in future become affordable for broad levels of the Moroccan population. The project at Mahjouba Lab at Frankfurter Kunstverein will serve as a catalyst, dealing both substantially and practically with the subjects of e-mobility and alternative economy.
