New Artificial Intelligence technologies are now freely available and contribute to providing artists and creatives with entirely new tools for image generation. Exhibitions at the Frankfurter Kunstverein are often dedicated to the impact of artificial intelligence and digital developments on society. With the workshop New Technologies of Image Generation, we invite you to look at the applications of these rapidly emerging technologies in order to understand artificial intelligences better and to be able to use them yourself. To this end, the Frankfurter Kunstverein has invited the photographer and video artist Boris Eldagsen to share his extensive knowledge of image-generating systems in a workshop. On three Saturdays in April (15.04., 22.04., 29.04., each from 2 to 4 pm) he will give an overview of the various platforms and engines and offer instructions and opportunities to experiment with these new tools themselves. The aim of the workshop is to give the participants the ability to generate new types of images that stand out from the average A.I. image production. For this purpose, the individual needs and applications of the participants will be taken into account.

SPECIFICATIONS

The workshop is for members of the Frankfurter Kunstverein as well as professional image makers such as photographers, art and creative directors, graphic designers and artists. A prerequisite for participation is initial experience in the application of image-generating artificial intelligence.

The workshop is offered on a solidary payment model, so that young artists and students can participate at a reduced rate.

Price for professionals & agencies: 450 EUR

Reduced price for artists and students: 55 EUR

Please note that the workshop will take place in German.

Registration to post(at)fkv.de

Maximum group size: 25 persons

Requirements: own WLAN-enabled laptop, headset (with microphone), basic experience with image-generating software, access to various platforms set up in advance.

Important: detailed installation/registration instructions will be sent to participants by e-mail after payment has been received; it must be ensured that everything works before the workshop begins. If you need help with the installation or registration, please write to: post(at)fkv.de.

STRUCTURE AND CONTENT OF THE WORKSHOP

Participants with previous knowledge in the application of A.I. image generation will get a deeper insight and application possibilities of DALL-E2, Midjourney, StableDiffusion and other Artificial Intelligences. The workshop will provide skills on the different image generating systems and their combined application. Boris Eldagsen will focus on the role of the “direction” of users in dealing with the A.I.s. The workshop will also focus on the role of the user: Logic and the ability to combine as well as linguistic possibilities of text input in order to generate novel image worlds.

The workshop is divided into three parts of 2 hours each. A lecture/presentation part will be followed by “prompt battles” in which the participants will implement what they have seen before, compare the different results and thus deepen their knowledge. In the “prompt battles”, the photographic/design work of individual participants is used.

Between the parts there are tasks that encourage independent work with the medium and deepen what has been learned. In addition, there is the possibility of “ordering” certain profession-specific content as a “special” (e.g. prompting for infographics).
