On Works of Art and Encapsulated Spaces"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lecture by Dr. Kirsten Johannsen<\/p>\n<p>Art in space, art underground, art on the water or at extreme heights \u2014 in her lecture Kirsten Johannsen presents unusual works of art, which have been made for people in unusual spatial situations. She also presents sites that lie beyond the typical realm in which art is viewed and received. Using the example of manned space flight, Johannsen discusses the categories of \u201climitlessness,\u201d \u201cplacelessness,\u201d \u201csensorialness,\u201d \u201chomelikeliness,\u201d and \u201cclosenessness\u201d and articulates the demands that they place on the artist, artwork, and viewer. <\/p>\n<p>Artist Kirsten Johannsen received her doctorate at the University of Plymouth (GB), examining artistic practices in isolated spatial settings. Her works are included in the collection of the ZKM | Zentrum f\u00fcr Kunst und Medientechnologie Karlsruhe, the Neue Nationalgalerie Berlin, and the Neue Berliner Kunstverein.
