For years private institutions such as the Deutsche Bank have opened their collections to the interested public. But is this, in addition to an exhibition venue such as the Deutsche Bank KunstHalle, a sufficient means of making these treasures available to a wider audience? Why do institutions collect art and what does this specifically mean for the responsible collection consultant? Art in public space represents the opposite of art behind closed doors. As part of the Ro\u00dfmarkt3 project, each year Frankfurt youth assume the role representatives of civil society and invite an artist to present a work of art on the Ro\u00dfmarkt plaza in Frankfurt for a designated period of time. We talk with curator and collection consultant Juliane von Herz about art in Frankfurt\u2014inside and outside the vault. <\/p>\n
Juliane von Herz studied Art History, German Literature and Political Science in Frankfurt, Munich, and Bologna. Within a period of eight years she made the art collection of the Landesbank Hessen-Th\u00fcringen into one of the most important contemporary bank collections in Europe. Since 2003 she has been working as an independent art and collection consultant, curator, and author. In 2009 she initiated the Ro\u00dfmarkt\u00b3 sculpture project. <\/p>\n
