The central theme of the talk centered on how man defines natural and human-altered environments.<\/p>\n<p>Panelists include: photographer and filmmaker Spessi, known for his portrait-like depictions of landscapes, factories, and building facades; Haraldur J\u00f3nsson, whose series TSOYL (The Story<br \/>\nof Your Life) invites consideration through its combination of highly personal and objective encounters with natural and man-made environments; and P\u00e9tur Thomsen, whose \u201cImported Landscapes\u201d reveal the recklessness of man\u2019s interventions in nature in making available cheap energy.<\/p>\n<p>*SPESSI* (*1956), whose official name is Sigurt\u00f3r Hallbj\u00f6rnsson, studied photography in Holland at the Vrie Akademie in The Hague until 1990 and at the Akademie voor Beeldende Kunst in Enschede until 1994. Since 1996 his photographs have been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Iceland, various European cities, and in New York. Four books have been published on his work, \u201cLocation\u201d (2007), \u201cBens\u00edn\u201d (1999), \u201cChicken Fajitas in the Manner of Google, Mexican Corn Soup, and Chocolate Ice Cream\u201d (2008), and \u201cThe CEO of today\u201d (2008).<\/p>\n<p>*Haraldur J\u00f3nsson* (*1961) attended L\u2019Institut des Hautes \u00c9tudes en Arts Plastiques in Paris and the Icelandic College of Art and Crafts before moving to D\u00fcsseldorf in 1990 to take a master class at the Kunstakademie D\u00fcsseldorf. He works with drawing, prints, sculpture, sound, light, and video. He has also published poems and prose, and takes photographs. His photo-series TSOYL (The Story of Your Life) (2010), published in book form by \u00daturd\u00far, highlights the close and complicated link between the individual and reality, time and memory. <\/p>\n<p>*P\u00e9tur Thomsen* (*1973) can certainly be described as the \u201cshooting star\u201d of Iceland\u2019s current photography scene. He studied art history and archaeology at the Universit\u00e9 de Montpellier before turning to photography at the Ecole Sup\u00e9rieure des M\u00e9tiers Artistiques in 1999.
