Lobo: a remote, long-abandoned small ghost town in the West Texas desert, around a two-hour drive from El Paso. In the middle of nowhere, there are five houses on the verge of decay, a former motel (with a kidney-shaped pool), a disused petrol station, and otherwise mainly desert winds, thorny plants and rattlesnakes.<\/p>\n
Why, then, did several people from Frankfurt decide to buy land in this place in 2001? What began as a spontaneous idea developed into a collective project that, over the years, repeatedly became an occasion for gatherings, music, film and art.<\/p>\n
Among those involved was Annette Gloser<\/span><\/span>, one of the defining figures of Frankfurt\u2019s off-scene since the 1990s. As a pioneer in creating unconventional, temporary spaces, she continues to develop formats in which people come together and art emerges beyond institutional frameworks. In the exhibition Hidden History<\/em>, she is represented with the large-scale installation Sierretta Nevada<\/em> in the foyer of the Frankfurter Kunstverein.<\/p>\n Between improvisation, friendship and the ongoing negotiation with decay and nature, Lobo evolved into a place in which these forms of collective, self-organised practice become particularly tangible.<\/p>\n In the lecture, Axel R\u00f6ssler<\/span><\/span> and collaborators will speak about the history of Lobo\u2014from its beginnings in Frankfurt bars to the projects realised in the Texan desert.<\/p>\n Admission: \u20ac5, including entry to the exhibition.
