Without biodiversity, human existence on planet Earth is not possible. However, biodiversity has been declining for too long. And at an alarming rate. This realisation united the curatorial team of the Frankfurter Kunstverein, which invited the Senckenberg Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre and the Frankfurt Zoo to join forces in an interdisciplinary collaboration. The result was the exhibition “Bending the Curve – Knowing, Acting, Caring for Biodiversity,” whose title alludes to the concept of “Bending the Curve of Biodiversity Loss.” It addressed the question of how the negative trend can be stopped or even reversed. And it focused on positive narratives. The positions from art and science gathered in the exhibition dealt with this theme. They illustrated ways and ideas for action to restore ecosystems and aimed at reversing the biodiversity crisis.
