Anatomy of Fragility – Body Images in Art and Science
2 October 2025 – 1 March 2026
Why think about the body today? Don’t we already know enough about it?
We all have bodies. More than that: we all are bodies. The body can be observed from the outside and examined from within, measured and quantified. It can be pathologized and objectified, healed and cared for. Bodies are vulnerable structures. Bodies are finite. And at the same time, bodies are political.
The exhibition Anatomy of Fragility explores essential questions about the power of body images. It shows how artists and scientists across different eras have made the body visible – as an ideal and as a fragment, as a medical model, as an object of hope, or as a projection of social order.
Through group tours and dialogical educational formats, the exhibition opens up diverse perspectives on current topics such as vulnerability, gender and identity, technological interventions, and the politics of the body. It invites visitors to engage in conversation about the artworks and scientific objects, and to reflect on and expand their own understanding of the body, of being human, and of society’s notions of normality.
