Lecture “Michael Riedel and Roberto Ohrt: Not participating, yet wanting to belong”
30.04.2026, 18:30
The art space Oskar-von-Miller-Strasse 16 (2000–2014)
The art space Oskar-von-Miller-Strasse 16 was one of the most distinctive spaces in Frankfurt’s art scene around the turn of the millennium. In a former shopfront, Michael Riedel, together with Dennis Loesch and other artists, ran a space where exhibitions, concerts, readings and club nights took place—often as copies or re-enactments of existing events.
Using strategies of repetition, copying and overwriting, the cultural life of Frankfurt was taken up, mirrored and critically examined. Exhibitions from the nearby Portikus, for example, were staged a second time, while events were replayed in altered form. Actions such as “Gert & Georg”, in which two performers imitated the artist duo Gilbert & George, created a parallel layer to the official art world. Formats such as the still ongoing “Freitagsküche” also originated here.
In the lecture, Michael Riedel and Roberto Ohrt will speak about this experimental project and its role within Frankfurt’s art scene around 2000.
Admission: €5, including entry to the exhibition. No registration is required.
Please note that the event will take place in German.
