Night of the Museums 2012: We’re making history!
The Night of the Museums 2012 at the Frankfurter Kunstverein was dedicated to the theme of media images that convey socially relevant events and are imprinted onto the collective memory. How are global events manifested as images today? How do photographs influence our perception of history? What images are presented to us, and what images are kept from view?

Recognizable by their t-shirts bearing the word “Fragen?” (questions), docents explained the outstanding international positions of contemporary photography and video art on view, which deal with the power of images. In a look-alike performance, President Obama was enacted as a prominent exhibition visitor and visitors had the chance to experience him from close up and hear his speech live. In the Cafébar of the Kunstverein, DJ Johnny Adria (Berlin) maned the console, spinning ghetto jazz and funk and soul under the motto “FINEST RAREST Blaxploitation.” His sounds were accompanied by visuals from films of the 1960s and 1970s.
