David Schiesser (* 1989, Offenbach) studied at Hochschule für Gestaltung in Offenbach and started tattooing after his graduation, which permanently influenced his view of his own drawings. His large-scale wall paintings and spatial interventions, his drawings on canvas and paper as well as his tattoo-sketches are inspired by the imagery and motives of antiquity and the Middle Ages. For the exhibition at Frankfurter Kunstverein he for the first time created a collage of drawings and photographs of tattooed bodies.
His editions are small-sized drawings in paper, presented and framed as diptychs. His notebook is his constant companion, while he quotes motives from the Science Fiction genre and mythology. At the same time his drawings recall masters of the Avantgarde, Picasso and Miró, who investigated the validity and power of the sign in its reduction to line and shape.
