Jennifer Tee was born in Arnhem, Netherlands, in 1973. In her work, she explores the rituals and mythology of different cultures and their reception and transformation in other contexts. The signs and patterns used in her installations and performances reflect the unspecific idea of foreign traditions. The figures in the “Ladybird” series are porcelain figurines from Chinese souvenir shops that have been collaged (painted, dressed, etc.) by the artist. As free adaptations of pseudo-traditional models, Tee integrates the objects into various works. The sculptures were part of an installation at Witte de With in Rotterdam and reappeared as part of the performance “Jen and the Throatsingers” at the Frankfurter Kunstverein. With these works, Jennifer Tee constructs her own mythological world from individual independent elements.
