Experts Slam: No Death is the End

23.05.2014

An informative evening with archaelogists, morticians, ethnologists, film scholars, etc.
Moderation: Lilian Engelmann

People do not like to talk about death. However, certain professions must confront dead bodies on a daily basis and thus operate within a field defined by unusual tensions. How do morticians view the corpse? What fascination does the fragile mummy hold for archaeologists and ethnologists? Film experts investigate how the dead are portrayed on American and German TV series. Can death be a source of inspiration for cartoonists? Why do people dress up as zombies? The Frankfurter Kunstverein brought together specialists from various fields in a unique expert-slam, which provided the audience with a good deal of valuable information all about the dead body. There were no prescribed topics for the lectures. The talks could have been anything, whether supported by visual and audio aids, presented as a power-point presentation, or as a reading or performative lecture. Only, participants were not allowed to exceed the time limit of five minutes!
