About being late. Postcards from Europe and other works

24.08.2012

During her studies of communication design in Essen Eva Leitolf (*1966 in Würzburg) already placed the emphasis on photography and pursued this direction in her art studies at the California Institute of the Arts (Cal Arts), USA, with Allan Sekula and Ellen Birrell between 1995 and 1997.
She was honored with several prizes and finally received the award of the VG-Bildkunst (2009) for her work “Postcards from Europe”. In this series, which begins in 2006, the artist complements the medium of photography by text elements and offers the viewer different accesses to her study dealing with the impact of immigration and emigration on the European society in a subtle way.

On this evening the artist Eva Leitolf talked about her work “Postcards from Europe” which was shown in the frame of RAY-Fotografieprojekte from April 20 until July 7 2012 in the group exhibition “Making History” at Frankfurter Kunstverein. She has given an insight in her choice of subjects and her working method with showing further works.
