Artist Talk: “Spatiographies” with Armin Linke and Philipp Ziegler (Curator)

23.08.2013

Armin Linkes works deal closely with concepts of space, architectural space, and spatiality. They probe the relationship between urban, architectural, and spatial practices, the transformative power thereof as well as the people who interact with these environments. Central to his work is the question as to the possibility of recording and conveying the various immediate uses of space through the visual medium of photography.

At first glance, the spaces photographed by Linke appear as stage-like scenarios, where ideological or political functions performatively unfold. Through the eye of the artist, these spaces themselves take on the roles of performative actors, whose structural dynamics persist in the face of shifting functional contexts.

Linke, born in 1966 in Milan, is currently a guest professor at the HfG Karlsruhe, the IUAV Arts and Design University Venice, and the MIT Visual Arts Program in Cambridge. He lives and works in Milan and Berlin.
