“(…) A work of elementary force (…) a book like a brick, an ,argument’ as the demonstrators called it, which might have as well been thrown.”

Hidden video recordings and photographs from the years 1973 to 1985 of political conflicts, demonstrations, house evictions, terrorist attacks, a bank robbery or a hostage exchange, form the basis of the book “Revolutionary Archives” by Jochem Hendricks. The material that the Frankfurt based artist has gathered for this long-term project originates from a police archive. The images have been printed by the recently deceased photographer Magdalena Kopp, who has been active as a member of the Revolutionary Cells and was the wife of the Venezuelan terrorist Carlos, called “The Jackal”. By having won Kopp participate in the editing of the images, Hendricks united both fronts in the photographs: scouts and spied, observers and the observed encounter once more but in reverse roles.
