Opening: “Grönland – Not For Sale”

18.06.2026, 17:30

We cordially invite you and your friends to the opening of the exhibition Greenland – Not For Sale at the Frankfurter Kunstverein!

Greenland, a land surrounded by the Arctic Ocean, six times the size of Germany. The eternal ice is melting relentlessly, and the country is facing immense transformations that act as a magnifying glass for the defining issues of our time. Its approximately 57,000 inhabitants are confronted with the profound challenges of a rapidly shifting geopolitical landscape and find themselves at the centre of international interests. What does it mean to preserve identity and independence in the face of intense media and political attention?

Greenland’s transformation is forceful, untamed and full of contradictions. How do the people on the ground perceive these changes? How have cultural and national senses of belonging shifted in the wake of recent geopolitical developments? What forms of art and music express the emotions of its inhabitants, particularly those of the younger generation?

Greenland – Not for Sale is an exhibition presented in cooperation with the ALPS Swiss Alpine Museum, Bern. Over the course of four years, moving and intimate cinematic testimonies have been created. They invite visitors on a sensory journey through the kaleidoscopic narratives of a complex country and its people. They take us into lived realities, opening new perspectives and fostering a deeper understanding of their land and cultures. What may seem distant to us is, in fact, remarkably close.

The opening event is free of charge and open to the public. We look forward to welcoming you!
