Kultur-Lounge: A Tender Dialogue — Barbara Klemm and Goethe — Two Frankfurters in Bad Homburg

06.02.2014

A conversation with Barbara Klemm, moderated by Friederike von Franqué

Beginning in March viewers had the opportunity of enjoying a tender dialogue between two Frankfurters that spans several centuries. The ALTANA-Kulturstiftung was presenting a large number of drawings by Johann Wolfgang Goethe. They show places and landscapes that Goethe encountered during his travels and within the immediate vicinity of Frankfurt and Weimar. Barbara Klemm retraced the views of the poet and recorded these places with her camera. One of Germany’s most famous photographers thus encounters one of the country’s most famous poets. We will speak with Barbara Klemm about the development of her images and her life as an artist in Frankfurt.

Barbara Klemm is a trained photographer and press photographer. She worked for the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” until her retirement in 2005. She is among the most significant German photographers and has been awarded numerous prizes. The exhibition “Barbara Klemm. Fotografien 1968 – 2013” (Barbara Klemm. Photographs 1968– 2013) is on view at the Martin-Gropius Bau in Berlin through March 9. Klemm was presented with the Pour le Mérite (Order of Merit). She is a member of the Berlin Academy of the Arts and a Professor at the University of Applied Sciences in Darmstadt.

An event hosted by the Kuratorium Kulturelles Frankfurt in cooperation with the Frankfurter Kunstverein.
