Lecture: Policing the Poor by Didier Fassin

25.06.2013

Lecture by Didier Fassin
Introduction by Martin Saar

Police prevention and combating of criminality in socially disadvantaged city districts is based not only on bona-fide suspicions of wrongdoing and charging suspects with offenses. While on the beat, spontaneous judgments, individual modes of justification, and moral convictions also play a role in police work. This not only reinforces the police’s ability to make decisions, but can also lead to questioning the value and meaning of their own work.
