Schüchterne Kamera, 2007/2013
Code and electronics, external monitor

A camera’s function is to record its environment while being directed at a specific target. If the camera is mobile, then it follows the target object. Gregor Kuschmirz’ Shy Camera behaves differently. It turns away, avoiding the gazes of the people around it. It uses freely available facial recognition algorithms (OpenCV) to analyse its field of vision and then turns towards the opposite direction when faces appear in its view.

Gregor Kuschmirz, born 1978 in Stuttgart, is an artist and designer, who graduated from Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg and the Munich University of Applied Sciences. He was a fellow at Benetton’s research centre FABRICA and subsequently taught at the German University in Cairo (EG).
