Anselm Baumann was born in Freiburg in 1958 and has lived and worked in Frankfurt am Main since 1989. The artist writes the following about his annual edition of “Der Ring” (1999) for the Frankfurter Kunstverein: “The work consists of five cast epoxy rings to touch and a CD-ROM. This contains the rings as scanned, freely variable images that can be moved within the facade of the Frankfurter Kunstverein. The epoxy rings and the CD-ROM have their common storage place in a double CD box. With these ring objects, which make reality comprehensible in two ways – as objects that can be touched directly and as their image on the screen – the possibilities of today’s art practice can be playfully explored: the image object in its relationship between real, three-dimensional space and the reality of virtual media.
