With the exhibition “The Intelligence of Plants” (16.10.2021-30.01.2022), the Frankfurter Kunstverein delved once again into questions regarding the Anthropocene: what new understanding and knowledge about plants do we gain thanks to scientific discoveries? What significance do plants have for our existence and that of the entire planet? What power do plants, and especially trees, develop for the human narrative?

Scientific exhibits and contemporary artworks were presented without hierarchy in the exhibition. The contributions from scientific researchers, with their novel observations and insights, provided a basis for philosophical and societal considerations that challenge our historical forms of life and economy. The artists presented perspectives that demonstrate a changed sensitivity towards our plant co-inhabitants. These attitudes are representative of a new awareness that all life is interconnected.
