Rudolf Schäfer (born 1952 in Herrenhof, Thuringia) initially worked as a freelance photographer and later completed external studies at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig. He was a master student of Ludwig Engelhardt and Klaus Wittkugel at the Berlin Academy of Arts. Since 1997 he has been professor for communication design and photography at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle. Schäfer became particularly known for his nude photographs, which he published in the former GDR magazine “Das Magazin” from 1973 to 1984. His lithograph entitled “Zizi et Kiki” (1993) shows a female nude and is taken from the series “Zizi et Kiki und andere Sonntagsbilder”, which photographically deals with pubic hairstyles from the Berlin Salon Kaiserschnitt, among others.
