The works of the sculptor Simon Rübesamen (born 1976, lives in Leipzig) are reminiscent of industrial products as well as modernist sculptures. Some consist of repetitions and sequences of similar elements, others appear as organic forms without concrete references to reality. They are often fired or hardened objects made of porcelain or cellulose, which still refer to the liquid, form-giving aggregate state of their original material. Despite their finesse and precision, the forms of these sculptures seem to be only partially decided creations or assertions of an author or creator. Rather, they tell of independence, of having become autonomous through the repetition of formal principles. An integral part of every sculpture by Rübesamen are the traces and references to form-giving processes (such as casting channels), which are either permitted or strictly prohibited by the artist.
