Hörbelt/Winter, who live in Frankfurt am Main, have been working together since 1992 on their “Same Same Projects”, primarily walk-in sculptures with concrete offers of use for visitors. They became known to a large audience at exhibitions such as Skulptur Projekte in Münster and the Venice Biennale, where their “Kastenhäuser”, assembled from hundreds of ordinary water boxes, were on display. The houses, with titles such as 443.10 or 387.9 referring to the total quantity and number of boxes stacked on top of each other, are made by the artists beforehand as models in transparent synthetic resin. In a playful approach to this material, Winter/Hörbelt also create miniature sculptures in which they return to the theme of the “figure in space”, just as they do in their monumental works.
