Artist talk with Magma Maria and Matt Welch

22.07.2021, 18:00

In the artist talk, the audience can get into conversation with the collective Magma Maria (Jakob Francisco, Malte Möller and Lena Stewens) and with the artist Matt Welch .

Magma Maria is the name of an artists’ collective consisting of a varying number of participants and temporarily occupying locations in Offenbach and Frankfurt. The Frankfurter Kunstverein has invited the independent initiative Magma Maria to present the sales exhibition Frankfurter Kunst Vertrieb parallel to the exhibition And This is Us 2021 – Young Art from Frankfurt. Along the ground floor window façade of the Steinernes Haus, artworks will be exhibited and offered for sale in several cycles over the summer. Over 170 works received through an open call will be made visible to a wide audience without curation. The works can be purchased on site during opening hours or via the specially created eBay project website. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the artworks will go to the artists. The non-profit action is based on a gesture of solidarity, as a response to the pandemic and the resulting reduction in opportunities for young artists to present themselves.

Matt Welch (*1988 in Liverpool, UK) works predominantly with sculpture and video. He studied an undergraduate degree in Painting at Wimbledon School of Art, London (UK), and graduated with a master-class student from the class of Haegue Yang at Frankfurt Art Academy Städelschule, Frankfurt am Main (DE) in October 2020. In 2020 he won the graduate prize of Sammlung Pohl for his work at Kunsthalle Portikus, Frankfurt am Main (DE). Among others, Matt Welch has exhibited in the following institutions: Kunsthalle Portikus, Frankfurt am Main (DE), Croy Nielsen, Vienna (AT), Dortmunder Kunstverein, Dortmund (DE), Limazulu2, London (UK), Ormside Projects, London (UK), Neue Alte Brücke, Frankfurt am Main (DE).

The talk will be moderated by Franziska Nori and will be held in German and English. The admission is free of charge.
