Lecture: A Nation Presents Itself: The Finnish Pavilion at the 1900 World’s Fair

14.08.2014

Lecture by Lisa Sträter (Project Nordic Images and Perspectives)

Finland’s appearance at the 1900 World’s Fair in Paris was made with its own Akseli Gallen-Kallela-designed pavilion at a time when the country was still part of the Russian Empire and when the Finnish independence movement was in full bloom. The presentation elaborated on the Finnish presentation at the World’s Fair and examined the extent to which architecture and interior design is able to reflect national identity.

This lecture has followed the lecture “Akseli Gallen-Kallela. Art as Contribution to the Formation of Identity” by Lena Schmitt (Project: Nordic Images and Perspectives)
